Homemade Shisha is way better than store bought

I made the mint shisha (www.smokehookah.info/shisha for recipe) on Friday night. At the time, I thought I added way too much glycerin, I didn't really measure, I just poured it over my mixture until everything was coated. Once it was mixed, I covered it and let it marinate overnight. A group of friends came over to share some tabouli, beer and hookah. We first smoked a chocolate Shisha with chocolate milk in the base, it was very tasty. The second time around we smoked my homemade mint shisha with ice water and altoids in the base. Smoking the homemade shisha made me think we shouldn't have even bothered smoking the chocolate one. The smoke was so thick and smooth, it almost felt like a solid. When we tried talking at first the smoke wouldn't even allow it. We would have to drop the smoke from our mouths, that made for an interesting smoke ring competition. I think the amount of glycerin, accounts for the quality of the smoke. Using the freshly dried mint from my garden, was the key to the great flavor. It was really interesting being able to taste the artificial mint flavor of the altoids mixing with the natural mint. I've been reading up on those legal buds, it sounds fun to get high legally. Maybe I can mix up some into a tasty shisha. I wrote up some recipes, you can click on the link on the right to check them out.

homemade mint shisha

I am going to try to make my own shisha to smoke in my hookah this Friday. Today, I picked some fresh mint from my garden and hung it up to dry. When you are making shisha your flavor need to be dry in order to absorb the glycerin and molasses (from what I've read). I'll mix the mint, tobacco, glycerin and molasses together and let it marinate over night to smoke on Saturday. Homemade shisha needs to be stored in the refrigerator or in an airtight container to prevent spoiling. I'll just make a small amount, since i don't have much space.

The winner is...

The winner in the brass Vs brass hookah smoke off is definitely glass. The smoke was much better and cooler. But my friend's glass hookah is way more fancy and bigger than my brass hookah, that could have had something to do with the glass's overwhelming victory. We smoked two rounds. The first time we used apple shisha and put apple cider with cinnamon in the base. I couldn't really taste the cinnamon enhancement but one of my friends could. The second time, we used Guava shisha and we used melon liquor with a whole tray of ice cubes in the base. This was an awesome recipe. We could taste the sweet melon liquor along with the tang of alcohol. The ice added a nice contrast, you would think smoke should be hot, so its a nice surprise to breath in ice cooled smoke.
In maybe two weeks, we are going to have another hookah girls night in which we make our own Shisha.

Brass Hookah That funky Hookah

I have a brass Hookah as the picture shows. It's the only hookah that I have ever smoked from. I have heard from some particular shisha enthusiats that the brass tastes weird compared to a glass one. I hope this weekend i will get to convince some people to take the "HOOKAH CHALLENGE" and blindfold people to see if there really is a difference between the brass and glass. Brass and Glass. That sounds nice. NO NO Brass VS. Glass! Hookah Ultimate Fight! Live in LAs Vegas. I guess there would be alot of people who were on the brass side and people on the glass side. Hookah Riots could ensue!!! That would be so weird. If anyone does that you should totally let me judge or get me a free room or at least a free hookah or shisha. Maybe Chocolate mint shisha....oh yeah.

getting ready

I'm getting ready for my hookah birthday party this weekend. We have red raspberry, banana, guava, pineapple and green apple. I'm trying to think up water recipes that will go well with these flavors. I was thinking chocolate something with the banana shisha and apple juice and cinnamon with the green apple shisha. Hopefully, we'll think of something good to go with the other flavors. It'll be fun experimenting.

Happy Birthday

I got a hookah for my birthday last year, then I got pregnant. I wasn't able to smoke but I was excited to try it out. Last weekend I got some friends together to smoke with me. We used Banana flavored tobacco or Banana Shisha. It took us two tries to get the shisha to burn well enough for us to smoke. My friend didn't have a gas stove so we had to light the charcoal with a lighter while holding it with thongs. Using a gas stove is much easier. I read up on different recipes for the hookah water this week. It would have been interesting to use chocolate liquor instead of water in the hookah base. Once the Shisha was burning it well it was nice just sit around smoking and doing some girl talk out on my friend's patio. I'm having the girls over this weekend to smoke at my house. A friend is bringing her hookah up from Maryland. She has a carrying case for it, which makes her much more fancy than me, since I carry mine around in a pillow case. You have to carry them in something if they are glass so they don't break. Mine is brass so I wasn't afraid of it breaking I just didn't want to arose any suspicion. The hookah could be confused with a bong I guess. I'll post pictures of my weekend hookah time once I get them.
